Elgin’s ready for its closeup — city to be backdrop for independent film being shot in June
Elgin church to host premiere of film ‘For Prophet’ Sunday
What we do understand is that his hometown of Mt. Zion is crumbling. And after almost getting mugged, and the City Council cutting the local funding to the homeless shelter, bringing his step-mother to tears, Damon screams at the Council that “Mt. Zion is going to Hell!”. Not long after, he encounters The Archangel Raphael who then drops some knowledge: the Cameraman is a demon that only he can see. Yet now, in her presence and the grace of The Most High God, Damon cannot see or hear this “Man with the Movie Camera”. That is until Raphael leaves his side to attend to other divine business. Right then, he visualizes this Cameraman again, now questioning his entire reality.
At the end of the 1st Act, Raphael ignites an Earthquake in the town as a sign that, unlike the demonic Cameraman, Raphael is connected to the Most High God and not “inside his head”. Freaked out and unsure of what to believe, Damon tries to avoid Raphael, who continues to explain her purpose in his life: to anoint him The Walking Prophet (the Prophet Joaquin) and help Damon fulfill his role within The Most High’s grand plan. He needs to save his marriage, his town and his mind. The normal things. When Damon goes on a Chicago radio morning show to promote the homeless shelter fundraiser, Raphael appears and forces him to explain that the Mayor of Mt. Zion is corrupt, which is ruining the town. This statement sends a riff within the community and quickly lines are drawn as the negative consequences begin to stack up for Damon: the county Health Board investigates his restaurant, which leads to him losing catering jobs and local customers, while his marriage is strained to the breaking point as his wife knows something is wrong even though Damon can’t be honest with her.
This is a film about a man’s coming to Faith within the reality of the struggle that is this life. Angel on one shoulder. Demon on the other. Damon’s journey is to learn how to choose the Angel.

From The Director
To be perfectly honest, I have been attempting to flagship MSI Films for almost 10 years now: raising capital, finding talent, writing script after script and doing my absolute best to produce a narrative feature film. I’ve written 6 screenplays in that time, three of which were unable to “get off the ground” as they say in filmmaking. Not enough money for my sports “dramedy”. Talent “dropped out” of my dramatic wedding movie. And I’m still unsure whether I should be the one to direct my version of a Horror screenplay. Then God put FOR PROPHET in my heart and instructed me to tell this story. Plain and Simple.
Suddenly, and for the first time, I was scared to make a film. My faith is personal and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to put it out there. Not in the very real way I would need to. But I truly felt a supernatural push to begin my feature filmmaking career with this film. God found the money to produce the script, God found the perfect actors for the screen and God carried this movie into existence. Not little ol’ me. While I was artistically hesitant, God would make decisions for me and move the production along. At His pace, of course. So after 9 drafts, 3 1/2 years and one pandemic, I’m writing my director’s statement for a promotional site for MSI Films’ feature debut motion picture.
God is good. And FOR PROPHET ain’t bad. Thank God.
